What has to happen first
For AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet. Its page on asking Google to recrawl URLs, last updated December 10, 2025, says crawling can take a few days to a few weeks, that individual URL requests are subject to a quota, and that requesting the same URL several times will not get it crawled faster. For many URLs at once, Google points to a sitemap.
Other assistants publish timing only for crawler settings, not for new pages. OpenAI says it can take about 24 hours after a robots.txt update for ChatGPT search to adjust, and Perplexity says changes to its crawler settings may take up to 24 hours to reflect. Neither figure says how fast a new page gets cited.
Why the timing varies
Being indexed makes a page eligible. Being cited depends on whether it is a better answer to the question than the other sources available, and answers change from one conversation to the next. A new estate planning page competes with court self-help pages, directories, and other firms on day one. The estate planning guide shows the state-level detail that tends to set a page apart.
Checks for a new page
- Confirm in Search Console's URL Inspection tool that the page is indexed.
- Check that it carries no noindex or nosnippet directive.
- Confirm robots.txt allows the search crawlers you want; see which AI crawlers to allow.
- Add it to your sitemap and link to it from the related practice page.
- Start dated question tests once it is indexed, using the method in how to track AI citations.

Common questions
Does requesting indexing in Search Console speed up AI citations?
It asks Google to crawl the page. Google says a crawl request does not guarantee inclusion in results, and that asking repeatedly will not make it faster. Whether an AI feature then uses the page is a separate question that depends on the page itself.
