Should a law firm block AI crawlers like GPTBot?

Usually not all of them. OpenAI treats its crawlers separately: blocking GPTBot signals that your content should not be used for model training, while blocking OAI-SearchBot keeps your site out of ChatGPT search answers. A firm that wants to be cited should leave search crawlers open and decide on training crawlers as a separate policy question.

How to check your site

Read your robots.txt, then check your hosting or security service, since some offer settings that block AI crawlers on their own. OpenAI says robots.txt changes can take about a day to affect ChatGPT search.
