How do medical malpractice firms get cited by AI?

By publishing pages an assistant can quote on a health and money topic without misleading anyone. Access comes first: indexed and eligible for a snippet in Google, and open to OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search. After that, no engine publishes how it picks a firm, so malpractice firms give themselves the best chance with attorney-reviewed pages that state their own state's filing rules exactly.

Access, then authority

Google says a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet to appear as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT search answers. Past that, Google's guidance on helpful content says its systems give even more weight to content with strong experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trust on topics that could affect health, financial stability, or safety. It also says E-E-A-T is not itself a specific ranking factor. Malpractice touches health and finances at once, so pages should be written or reviewed by the attorney, with sources named. See what E-E-A-T means for law firms.

State procedure is the citable part

Malpractice procedure differs by state, and the details are what readers need. In North Carolina, Rule 9(j) of the Rules of Civil Procedure sets a pleading requirement for these cases. Under 9(j)(1), the complaint specifically asserts that the medical care and available records have been reviewed by a person reasonably expected to qualify as an expert witness under Rule 702 and willing to testify that the care did not meet the applicable standard of care.

Timing is state law too. Under G.S. 1-15(c), a malpractice claim arising from professional services accrues at the defendant's last act, a one-year discovery extension can apply when the injury was not readily apparent, and in no event may the action be commenced more than four years from the last act, subject to the statute's own provisions. A national page cannot state either rule. The North Carolina guide shows how state detail runs through a firm's site.

Verdicts travel badly

A verdict figure quoted alone by an assistant can read as a promise. North Carolina's Rule 7.1 treats a statement likely to create an unjustified expectation about results as misleading. Read whether law firms can publish case results before adding any. Firms that also handle other injury work can borrow page structure from the personal injury guide.
