This guide builds on the Kentucky guide, which covers SCR 3.130(7.10), the Attorneys' Advertising Commission, and KBA E-457. Here the focus is Louisville Metro: one merged government, dozens of city names inside it, and court facts that vary by building.
One metro government, 83 more city names
The Jefferson County Property Valuation Administrator lists 83 incorporated taxing jurisdictions in the county and describes them as separate cities within the larger metropolitan city limits of Louisville. The list includes Jeffersontown, St. Matthews, Shively, Middletown, Lyndon, Anchorage, and Prospect, each with its own elected officials. The same page notes that Louisville exercises the powers of a first class city because it is a consolidated local government.
Readers search with the name of the place they live. That rarely justifies a page per city, since all of them share the same county courts. One strong Louisville and Jefferson County page that names the communities you serve usually does more than a stack of near-copies.
Getting the local court facts right
The Kentucky Court of Justice's Jefferson County page lists two facilities:
| Building | Address | What is there |
|---|---|---|
| Jefferson County Judicial Center | 700 W. Jefferson St., Louisville | Circuit Court and Family Court |
| Louis D. Brandeis Hall of Justice | 600 W. Jefferson St., Louisville | District Court, including civil, small claims, and probate; Circuit Court Clerk, Suite 2008; Domestic Violence Intake Center |
An estate page should send families to District Court probate at the Hall of Justice, and a divorce page should name Family Court at the Judicial Center. Mixing the two is an easy error for a national template and an easy one for an assistant to repeat.
What differs from the rest of Kentucky
The statewide rules in the Kentucky guide apply here unchanged. What Louisville adds is the place-name layer: a consolidated government with dozens of incorporated cities inside it, which a statewide page will not name. If your firm also takes clients from across the Ohio River, each page should say which state's law it explains and where your attorneys are licensed; the Indiana guide covers that state's rules. For a similar river market, compare Cincinnati.
What we build for Louisville firms
- Practice-area pages that name the right Jefferson County building and court for each matter
- A Louisville and Jefferson County page that names the suburban cities you serve, split only where content differs
- Answer posts for the questions Louisville clients ask before they call
The estate planning guide shows how probate detail shapes these pages, and the family law guide covers what divorce clients ask. If you are weighing city pages, read whether city pages still work for lawyers.
Common questions
Which court handles probate in Louisville?
District Court. The Kentucky Court of Justice lists District civil, small claims, and probate at the Louis D. Brandeis Hall of Justice, 600 W. Jefferson St. Check the court's own page before publishing, since details can change.
Should we build pages for St. Matthews or Jeffersontown?
Only if the page has something distinct to say for readers there. The courts are the same countywide, so one Louisville and Jefferson County page that names the cities you serve is usually the better first step.
